I hate Paypal

So Paypal is really trying to make my life miserable by not letting me have access to some of the Dexter money that people have paid.  I've thought long and hard about what to do and have decided that I am going to refund as much of this "locked up" money as possible and hope that people are willing to pay me again using a different method.  I'd rather take this risk than rely on Paypal to release the funds (I've heard that it is very hard to get them to do this since they are essentially a dumb machine that relies on algorithms that often get it wrong).

So you may see a Paypal refund come from me soon (some people will have already seen it).  I will provide further instructions on how you can pay for your Dexter boards without using Paypal.

The good news is that I did get enough funds to pay to have the boards made and they are being made as we speak.  You can find the full schedule including estimated delivery times at http://laserdisc-replacement.com  So for now, Paypal's shenanigans have not impacted Dexter's delivery date, although I certainly have been greatly inconvenienced and had a huge amount of my valuable time wasted a result.

TLDR: Dexter is still on schedule but don't use Paypal :)

  1. Wow, that's too bad. What reason did PayPal give for hanging on to your funds? Was it a temporary hold, or some kind of fraud/chargeback issue? I've heard that if you have a recently-created PayPal account, and you receive a sudden large number of payments, they will put a 60 day hold on the money or something like that. Fortunately I've never had a problem with them, but the horror stories are everywhere.

    1. They said that there had been "complaints" from unknown people about their orders. I find this difficult to believe since I've been up front with people about the Dexter timeline. So I think the real reason is that there was just too much money in the account so it presented too big of a risk for Paypal.

    2. That must be super frustrating. Without giving you any record or details of those supposed complaints, how can you possibly respond to that? I think the largest balance I've ever had in my PayPal account was a little over $30K, and I was nervous they would decide to freeze it for some random reason. If you find a good alternative to PayPal, please let us know!

    3. In process of getting set up with one that looks very promising. They are local to me so I can go to their office and bark at them if I have any problems, something I could not do with Paypal :)

  2. PayPal sucks that way. What's more is it'll take days to get funds to my account then back to my bank and credit card. Loosing situation for everyone.

  3. I got my refund noticed a few days ago. I understand it was not your doing but that still doesn't help me after saving up to beat the pre-order date. Please tell me you have a solution in mind. Can we send you a check? I hope I am still able to buy this great product.

    1. I do accept checks and I also will be accepting credit card payments soon (I am just waiting on other people to finish setting this up for me right now). Don't worry, as long as I know you are still interested, I will hold your board for you while we work through this paypal mess together. You will be able to buy it. Feel free to contact me via email if you want to talk more, otherwise, I will be contacting you and everyone else that I refunded.

    2. That's great Matt. I really appreciate it. I won't bug you about this now that I know you will be reaching out to us once you have another way of accepting payment. I just didn't want to lose the opportunity to buy it. Thanks
